Internationally qualified nutritionists and dietitians must undergo the Dietetic Skills Recognition (DSR) process managed by Dietitians Australia. This pathway is designed to ensure that overseas-trained professionals have the academic foundation and clinical competency equivalent to an Australian graduate. Successful completion of the DSR process is the mandatory requirement for achieving the Accredited Practising Dietitian (APD) credential, allowing for professional practice in the NHS-equivalent Australian health system and eligibility for Medicare provider numbers.

Follow these steps to achieve your global medical career
Submit 4-year degree, 100 days supervised placement logs, recency of practice (within 3 years), and home country registration for audit.
Achieve IELTS Academic 7.0 (no band below 7.0) or OET B (350 minimum each). Exemptions for UK, USA, Ireland, Canada (except Quebec), NZ, South Africa graduates.
Pass the MCQ exam testing theoretical knowledge across Clinical Nutrition, Public Health, and Foodservice Management.
Pass the performance-based Oral Exam with clinical and professional scenarios assessing clinical reasoning, ethical judgment, and communication in Australian context.
Request skills assessment for visa (Subclass 189, 190, 491) once DSR is confirmed.
Join APD program as provisional member. Complete mentorship and 12-month CPD plan, then apply for Medicare Provider Number.
